PREPOSITIONS IN FRENCH



What is a PREPOSITION?
A preposition is a word that indicates WHERE a noun is.  For example – at, to, in, under, behind.

Where does a PREPOSITION go in a sentence?
It goes BEFORE the noun.
The bakery is behind the cinema.
The school is next to the town hall.
The fountain is in the village square.
I am going to the butcher shop.

What PREPOSITIONs do we need to know in FRENCH?
1.  Je vais à la boulangerie.  =  I am going to the bakery.
2.  La fontaine est dans la place. = The fountain is in the village square.
3.  Le restaurant est devant la gare. = The restaurant is in front of the railway station.
4.  Le cimetière est derrière l’église. = The cemetery is behind the church.
5.  La mairie est en face de la boutique.  = The town hall is opposite the shop.
6.   Le parc est près de la banque. = The park is near the bank.
7.  Le marché est loin de la boucherie.  = The market is far from the butcher shop.
8.  Le tabac est à côté de chez moi. = The tobacco shop is next to my house.
